Contributions
Cancer Research
Ajay Prakash is a trained oral pathologist and oral oncologist whose research focuses on the links between normal cells and cancer cells. Through his results, he showed the presence of the role of langerhans cells in oral mucosa, oral lichen planus and oral squamous cell carcinoma,p53 expressions in oral squamous cell carcinoma, and Pre-cancerous lesions. He has investigated Microenvironment – A Role in Tumour Progression and Prognosis, and mechanisms involved in tumor progression and invasiveness toward metastasis could be essential to improve efficacy of current therapeutic interventions with significant clinical impact.

Ajay Prakash is also known for defining and characterising the teeth' role in Forensic Dental Science, also the role of Lip prints (cheiloscopy). Lip outline forensic sciences in Forensic Dentistry.
In 2014, he prospectively identified the Lip outline: A new paradigm in forensic sciences , study was to assess the distribution of lip outline patterns among males and females and to evaluate the uniqueness of lip outline patterns.
In 2015, he also studied and observed Scorching effects of heat on extracted teeth-A forensic view, investigated structural damage in freshly extracted teeth to heating, at different temperatures for a certain length of time in the laboratory, Evaluated the incinerated dental remains may provide additional forensic investigative avenues in victim identification because of the consistency of morphological changes, the histological patterns at temperatures that are commonly encountered in common domestic fires.
In 1999, studied and researched Lip prints (cheiloscopy). External surface of the lip has many elevations and depressions forming a characteristic pattern called lip prints, examination of which is referred to as cheiloscopy. This is unique for individuals like the finger prints. This characteristic pattern helps to identify the individuals since it is unique for individuals. When the lines are not clear (Only the shape of lines is printed), individual identification of human beings based on this trace is extremely difficult, unless the trace contains more individual characteristics like scars, clefts etc, and often identification ends with group identification.
Respiratory Illness
Majority of the population in the WHO African region is still primarily reliant on polluting cooking options. Despite its adverse health impacts mostly respiratory illness, charcoal is still the preferred choice of fuel in households of Ethiopia due to its low cost, lack of availability, and fear of using modern fuels. In Ethiopia, there is a dearth of data reporting on the burden of respiratory illness among women using charcoal for cooking.
This study concluded the magnitude of respiratory illness among women households using charcoal cooking, its exposure, and its associated factors.
COVID-19 Vaccine Side Effects
AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine side effects
The best way to eradicate corona virus disease (COVID-19) viral infection is mass vaccination. Many studies demonstrate vaccination is associated with some local and systemic side effects. This study aimed to provide evidence on AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine side effects. Institutional based cross-sectional survey was conducted among 254 health workers at Nigist Eleni Mohammed memorial comprehensive specialized hospital (from July 01/ 2021 to July 30/2021). Data were collected consecutively through self-administered online survey created on Google Forms of platform which had been randomly delivered via (Facebook or telegram pages). Demographic data of participants, side effect after first and second dose of vaccine were covered. The prevalence of side effect after first and second dose vaccine was higher. Most of the symptoms were short lived and mild. This result might help to solve an emerging public health challenge (vaccine hesitancy) nurtured by misinformation related to vaccines safety.
